How to Apply Design Thinking Methodology in HR?

Design Thinking methodology is extremely popular today and widely applied in the largest global companies. Its primary purpose is to create exceptional products and services, as well as to improve processes in various areas – production, sales, hospitality and tourism, the aviation industry, and more.

An area where Design Thinking has shown exceptional power and usefulness is Human Resources (HR) and all areas that fall under human resources management.

In recent years, HR has become increasingly interested in introducing the Design Thinking methodology, as innovative and different solutions are needed to set a company apart from the competition by attracting and retaining the best people.

Companies turn to the Design Thinking methodology when faced with complex problems and when HR needs to provide strong support to the company’s business strategy and management. This methodology is an efficient and effective approach to simplifying problems and finding innovative and creative solutions with the active participation of all relevant people within the company.

Topics covered in the training

  • Understanding the Design Thinking Approach

Learn more about the principles of Design Thinking that are key to HR processes (empathy and human-centered design; collaboration; organized brainstorming; experimentation; implementing an idea).

  • Kako da dobro razumete vaše zaposlene i njihove potrebe?

Gather feedback from your employees, conduct interviews, and hold observation sessions so you can see your HR processes from their perspective. Focus on the human side of things. You’d be surprised what you can discover if you take off your HR hat for a moment. DT tools such as interviewing and observation, defining personas, and Jobs To Be Done will help you create a clear picture of who your employees are, what challenges they face, and what needs and expectations you need to meet.

  • What is the problem to be solved?

Design Thinking tools that deal with data synthesis, user experience mapping, and defining your user’s point of view will help you narrow the problem down to one essential question. Define a clear problem statement that guides the rest of the process with a clear goal. What did you learn about your employees?

  • How to come up with ideas?

Using clear rules and various brainstorming methods, come up with as many ideas as possible. Openness, divergence, and exploration are some of the characteristics of one of the phases of Design Thinking, the ideation phase. The goal is to be creative and generate as many different ideas as possible.

  • How do we develop prototypes?

Once you’ve brainstormed ideas and gathered as many perspectives as possible, it’s time to turn your ideas into solutions. Learn why it’s important to show the idea, not just talk about it. Design Thinking provides us with several types of prototypes depending on what we want to achieve. Prototypes will give you something tangible to test.

  • Testiranje prototipa

Your entire design is just a hypothesis until it gets into the hands of your users. Prototype testing allows you to see how your solution works in a real environment. Learn what types of testing are done within Design Thinking. Run several test sessions and observe your employees as they interact with your prototype. Learn how to collect and organize feedback and encourage your employees to share their honest opinions.

  • Design Thinking in HR processes

Which phases and methods of DT can be applied to different HR processes (L&D, candidate experience journey, employee experience journey, compensations & benefits, etc.).
